Shakopee High School is competing in the second annual Scott County High School Seat Belt Challenge April 7 to May 2.

The program’s goal is to encourage students at all of the county’s high schools to make the safe choice to buckle up, every time they get in a vehicle. The challenge involves seat belt checks at the start and end of four weeks of activities organized and conducted by the students in each school to promote seat belt use.

SHS will compete in all three of the challenge’s categories:

+ Highest Seat Belt Use – The winner will receive the Traveling Trophy and school recognition.

+ Most Improved Seat Belt Use – The winner will get a school recognition celebration.

+ Best Overall Campaign – The winner will earn a student-led group celebration.

The activities are organized and conducted by the members of the school’s Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD).

Last year, Shakopee High School was the winner in the Highest Seat Belt Use and Most Improved Seat Belt Use categories. This year’s Seat Belt Challenge winners will be announced the week of May 12.
