Results of Seatbelt Check-Point in Tecumseh
This afternoon Tecumseh Officers conducted a seatbelt checkpoint at the intersection of Lacasse Blvd. and St. Thomas Street. Officers were at the location for approximately 2 hours and checked 100 vehicles during that time. Results: 5 warnings were issued for not wearing a seatbelt or wearing a seatbelt improperly and 4 people were charged with failing to wear their seatbelt. 5 child seats were checked and all but 1 had to be adjusted (the child seats were not secured properly to the seat and the straps were too loose).
The fine is $110.00 and 2 demerit points.
A properly used child seat reduces a child’s risk of injury in a motor vehicle collision by as much as 75 per cent, yet as many as 80 per cent of child car seats are used incorrectly.
